To treat chronic inflammation and fibrosis effectively it is necessary to switch off the inflammatory response, facilitate remodelling with a return towards normal tissue architecture and achieve parenchymal repopulation. This research theme addresses the mechanisms that bring about resolution of inflammation as a prerequisite for remodelling fibrosis. Defining critical events and signals initiating inflammation and mediating recruitment of inflammatory and immune cells remains an essential attribute to the research.
