One Health is the approach underpinning the research done at the Edinburgh Medical School. The modern challenges that face not only the UK but the world in terms of the rise of chronic disease, the shifts in populations and the challenges presented by a population which is living much longer are common and the mechanisms underpinning them are common. The aim of the School is to bring the right individuals together to catalyse and create the opportunities to really develop exciting and cutting edge clinical and non-clinical research that makes a difference to people’s lives.

Development of a UPLC-MS/MS method for the simultaneous analysis of AT7519 and acetaminophen in a mouse model of acute inflammation
Targeted chromatography and mass spectrometry can be used to assess multiple compounds simultaneously and this approach has not been applied yet to measure APAP and AT7519 in a mouse model.Targeted mass spectrometry ... -
Location of CD39+ T cell sub-populations within tumours predict differential outcomes in non-small cell lung cancer
Nanostring nCounter targeted RNA Seq. data of CD4+ and CD8+ T cells isolated from human non-cancerous lung tissue and non-small cell lung cancer tumour tissue as shown in Koppensteiner et al. (in submission), "Location of ... -
Innervation of the developing kidney in vivo and in vitro
Within the adult kidney, renal neurites can be observed alongside the arteries where they play a role in regulating blood flow. However, their role and localization during development has so far not been described in detail. ... -
Data from Paper: Synaptic oligomeric tau in Alzheimer's disease - a potential culprit in the spread of tau pathology through the brain
In Alzheimer’s disease (AD), fibrillar tau pathology accumulates and spreads through the brain and synapses are lost. Evidence from mouse models indicates that tau spreads trans-synaptically from pre- to postsynapses and ... -
DecodeME Questionnaire
Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS) is a chronic disease characterised by a substantial reduction of activity levels, estimated to affect approximately 250,000 people in the UK. ME/CFS is associated ... -
Nanostring data Robertson et al. re interaction between FOXG1 and Wnt/ß-catenin signalling
GBM stem cells (GSCs) display phenotypic and molecular features reminiscent of normal neural stem cells, and exhibit a spectrum of cell cycle states (dormant, quiescent, proliferative). However, mechanisms controlling the ... -
Data from paper: Predictive blood biomarkers and brain changes associated with age-related cognitive decline
Growing evidence supports the use of plasma levels of tau phosphorylated at threonine 181 (p-tau181), amyloid-β, neurofilament light chain, and glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) as promising biomarkers for Alzheimer’s ... -

Data from paper: Synaptic resilience is associated with maintained cognition during ageing
It remains unclear why age increases risk of Alzheimer’s disease and why some people experience age-related cognitive decline in the absence of dementia. Here we test the hypothesis that resilience to molecular changes in ... -
